  • Outstanding Spa.
  • Stunning architectural design and setting.
  • Gourmet food and stylish service.

We were thoroughly pampered on our recent visit to Johnstown House. We enjoyed a luxurious bedroom, free broadband access, beautiful bedding, fabulous food, super service, gorgeous grounds and unique spa treatments. We could move in here!

For a mother/daughter birthday break, this was the dream location.
We drove from Dublin in less than 40 minutes and arrived in glorious sunshine. Acres of landscaped gardens surrounded the historic house. As we walked through the building we were impressed with the tasteful blend of old and new that result in this contemporary and classic hotel. We were also delighted with the fact that everything we wanted was on the ground floor – our room, the spa, the dining room, the bar, the breakfast room and of course the reception itself.

There were actually two weddings going on at the hotel, but we only knew that because the receptionist told us. Each wedding celebration managed to remain exclusive from the other, and also from the rest of the hotel guests. We had the sanctuary of the spa on our minds however, as each had just put in a very busy couple of weeks at work.

Our search for excellent treatments was extremely successful as both of us declared that the therapists were the best we had come across in a long time. I actually overheard a couple of people saying that in the relaxation room too. There were plenty of couples and friends enjoying the spa facilities, and while it was busy there was an atmosphere of peace and calm. I went back the next morning to experience the flotation tank which sent me into a deeply relaxing dream-like mood. Following that a facial left me bright and ready to face the world again.

While the focus of our visit was deep tissue massage and detoxing at the spa, the Pavilion Restaurant allowed us to indulge in some lovely food and wine.
The menu was very balanced with good choices, and my Seabass on a salad of fennel and spinach was perfection on a plate. We took a short stroll around the grounds after our main courses before returning to order some delicious desserts. On a warm and balmy evening, this is the ideal way to digest and savour each course. And so we returned to chocolate bombs and strawberry mousse and melt in the mouth torte!

We noticed that during our stay most of the guests appeared to be Irish, and there were plenty of families and couples staying. Between leisure and corporate guests, the hotel has a “buzz” about it throughout the week and the weekends. And yet all the while, when you walk through the doors of the spa, you enter a world of calm oasis where all the senses are relaxed and revived.
An amount of hotels in Ireland today are trying to be many different things to please different sectors. Often with a spa in a busy family hotel it just does not work. It takes careful design and thoughtful management to marry the two. Yet some of our favourite hotels in the country are managing to do this perfectly. Marriott Johnstown House Hotel is another one that we are thrilled to add to that prestigious list.

A fabulous spa in an excellent hotel in a lovely location – together with such friendly service – this hotel has the recipe just right.
What’s to do in the area?

Besides indulging in the fabulous spa, there are a range of activities available in the area.

Golf is very popular in Enfield. Rathcore Golf & Country Club is a magnificently fashioned golf course designed by Mel Flanagan, offering 18 challenging holes of play against the local landscape.

The 130 acre estate contains two ring forts dating from pre Christian times and a mote inside where Anglo Norman Knights built a wooden fortress to protect the territory wrested from the native Irish.
The course provides a unique challenge to every standard of golfer.
